Islam is quite the opposite to a "Via Negativa" such as we find in Buddhism. It is, rather, a "Via Affirmativa" in which the essential mode of prayer and spiritual realisation is through the affirmation of the Divine. God IS! And there is none but He! The mood of the canonical prayers (salat) is praise for God. The internal prayer (dhikr) takes the form of a remembrance of God, invoking His Name at every heart beat and devoting every breath, every moment, every thing, to Him. But who is He? What is He? Where? When? The Islamic answers to these questions are absolute. He is Absolute Reality. He is everywhere, every place, every moment. All else is illusory.

The Koran is a Self-disclosure. The Koran reveals and declares the nature of Allah. These affirmations revolve around the Divine Name; they reveal the content of the Name, the One invoked. He is Allah, the One, the Absolute.

Here are some of the formulae of affirmation beginning with "He is---" and "Allah is---" in the Holy Koran. When you seek Allah, know that He is all these things. And as He says of Himself in the Koran: He is the goal!!!

He is knower of all things.
He is the relenting, the Merciful.
He is the Hearer, the Knower.
He is the Sublime, the Tremendous.
He is the Best of Helpers.
He is Able to do all things.
He is Allah in the heavens and in the earth.
He is the Omnipotent over His slaves, and He is the Wise, the Knower.
He is only One God.
He is the Best of Deciders.
He is the most swift of reckoners.
He is able to send punishment upon you from above you or from beneath your feet
He is the Wise, the Aware.
He is the Cleaver of the Daybreak
He is the Subtile, the Aware.
He is Best Aware of the transgressors.
He is Wise, Aware.
He is the Best of all who deal in judgment.
He is our Protecting Friend.
He is Full of Pity, Merciful
Allah! He is the Relenting, the Merciful.
He is Lord of the Tremendous Throne.
He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
He is the Best of Judges.
He is Aware of what is in the breasts (of men).
He is your Lord and unto Him ye will be brought back.
He is the Strong, the Mighty.
He is Owner of Praise, Owner of Glory!
He is Seer of what ye do.
He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
He is the Knower, the Wise.
He is the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, the Great, the High Exalted.
He is mighty in wrath.
He is the One, the Almighty.
He is only One God
He is the All-Wise Creator.
He is ever Clement, Forgiving.
He is Knower, Seer of His slaves.
He is Allah, my Lord, and I ascribe unto my Lord no partner.
He is Best for reward, and best for consequence.
He is the Truth
He is the True
He is the High, the Great.
He is your Protecting friend.
He is Best of all who make provision.
He is the Manifest Truth.
He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.
He is Informed of what ye do.
He is Best Aware of those who walk aright.
He is Allah; there is no God save Him.
He is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise.
He is the True
He is ever Merciful to the believers.
(He is) the Knower of the Unseen.
He is the Sublime, the Great.
He is the All-knowing Judge.
He is Allah, the Mighty, the Wise.
He is the Best of Providers
He is Witness over all things.
(He is) the Knower of Things Hidden.
He is Hearer, Nigh.
He is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise.
He is Forgiving, Responsive.
He is Knower of every creation,
He is the All-Wise Creator,
He is Allah, the One, the Absolute.
He is Guardian over all things.
He is Strong, severe in punishment.
He is the Living One.
He is Witness over all things
He is the Sublime, the Tremendous.
He is the Protecting Friend, the Praiseworthy.
He is Exalted, Wise.
He is my Lord and your Lord.
He is the Benign, the Merciful.
He is Best Aware of him whom goeth right.
He is Best Aware of you (from the time) when He created you from the earth
He is the goal
He is the First and the Last, and the Outward and the Inward
He is with you wheresoever ye may be.
He is Allah, than Whom there is no other God, the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible.
He is the Beneficent, Merciful.
He is Allah, than Whom there is no other God, the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One, Peace, the Keeper of Faith, the Guardian, the Majestic, the Compeller, the Superb.
He is the Beneficent.
(He is) the Knower of the Unseen,
He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy.
And He is the Forgiving, the Loving, Lord of the Throne of Glory, Doer of what He will.
He is ever ready to show mercy.
He is Allah, the One!

ALLAH

Allah is able to do all things.
Allah is not unaware of what ye do.
Allah is aware of evil-doers.
Allah is Seer of what they do.
Allah is of Infinite Bounty
Allah is Able to do all things
Allah is Seer of what ye do.
Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing.
Allah is Full of Pity, Merciful toward mankind.
Allah is with the steadfast.
Allah is Responsive, Aware.
Allah is severe in punishment
Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Allah is Hearer, Knower.
Allah is Aware that ye were deceiving yourselves
Allah is severe in punishment
Allah is with those who ward off (evil)
Allah is swift at reckoning.
Allah is Mighty, Wise.
And whatsoever good ye do, lo! Allah is Aware of it.
Allah is Forgiving, Clement.
Allah is Aware of all things.
Allah is Seer of what ye do
Allah is informed of what ye do.
Allah is a Lord of Kindness to mankind
Allah is aware of evil-doers.
Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing.
Allah is a Lord of Kindness to (His) creatures.
Allah is the Protecting Guardian of those who believe.
Allah is Absolute, Clement.
Allah is Absolute, Owner of Praise.
Allah is teaching you.
And Allah is Knower of all things.
Allah is Mighty, Able to Requite (the wrong).
Allah is Seer of His bondmen,
Allah is Full of Pity for (His) bondmen.
Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him.
Allah is the best of schemers.
Allah is Aware of (who are) the corrupters.
And whatsoever ye spend, Allah is Aware thereof.
Allah is Independent of (all) creatures.
Allah is not unaware of what ye do.
Allah is Aware of what is hidden in (your) breasts.
Allah is your Protector, and He is the Best of Helpers.
Allah is a Lord of Kindness to believers.
Allah is Best Aware of what they hide.
Allah is Sufficient for us! Most Excellent is He in Whom we trust!
Allah is no oppressor of (His) bondmen.
Allah is swift to take account.
Allah is ever relenting, Merciful.
Allah is ever Knower, Wise.
Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
Allah is ever Knower of all things.
Allah is ever Witness over all things.
Allah is ever High, Exalted, Great.
Allah is ever Knower, Aware.
Allah is Benign, Forgiving.
Allah is sufficient as a Guardian, and Allah is sufficient as a Supporter.
Allah is sufficient as Witness.
Allah is sufficient as Trustee.
Allah is stronger in might and stronger in inflicting punishment.
Whatever good ye do, lo! Allah is ever Aware of it.
Allah is ever All-Embracing, All-Knowing.
Allah is ever Absolute, Owner of Praise.
And Allah is sufficient as Defender.
Allah is ever Forgiving, Powerful.
Allah is sufficient Witness.
Allah is only One God.
Allah is Knower of all things.
Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing.
Allah is Able to send down a portent.Allah is Best Aware of the wrong-doers.
Allah is the best of plotters.
Allah is your Befriender - a Transcendent Patron, a Transcendent Helper!
Allah is not a tyrant to His slaves.
Allah is Strong, severe in punishment.
Allah is with those who keep their duty (unto Him).
Allah is disclosing what ye fear.
Allah is the Knower of Things Hidden
Allah is He Who accepteth repentance from His bondmen and taketh the alms, and that Allah is He Who is the Relenting, the Merciful.
Allah is in charge of all things.
Allah is better at guarding, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
Allah is the Warden over what we say.
Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Almighty.
Allah is He Who created the heavens and the earth,
Allah is indeed Forgiving, Merciful.
Allah is Knower of what ye used to do.
Allah is Knower, Powerful.
Allah is with those who keep their duty unto Him and those who are doers of good.
Allah is better and more lasting.
Allah is no oppressor of His slaves.
Allah is Witness over all things.
Allah is Strong, Almighty -
Allah is Subtile, Aware.
Allah is, for mankind, Full of Pity, Merciful
Allah is Best Aware of what ye do.
Allah is of ample means, Aware.
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.
Allah is Surety over what we say.
Allah is altogether Independent of (His) creatures.
Allah is with the good.
Allah is He Who created you and then sustained you, then causeth you to die, then giveth life to you again.
Allah is He Who sendeth the winds so that they raise clouds
Allah is He Who shaped you out of weakness, then appointed after weakness strength, then, after strength, appointed weakness and grey hair.
Allah is Aware of what is in the breasts (of men).
Allah is ever Seer of what ye do.
And Allah is ever Watcher over all things.
Allah is not shy of the truth.
Allah is ever Witness over all things.
Allah is indeed Observer, Seer of His slaves.
Allah is the Knower of the Unseen of the heavens and the earth.
Allah is not such that aught in the heavens or in the earth escapeth Him.
Allah is Independent of you
Allah is Creator of all things, and He is Guardian over all things.
Allah is a Lord of bounty for mankind
Allah is our Lord and your Lord.
Allah is gracious unto His slaves.
Allah is Forgiving, Responsive.
Allah is the Friend of those who ward off (evil).
Allah is patron of those who believe
Allah is with you, and He will not grudge (the reward of) your actions.
And Allah is the Rich, and ye are the poor.
Allah is Relenting, Merciful
Allah is Full of Pity, Merciful
Allah is stern in reprisal.
Allah is the Best of providers.
Lo! the mercy of Allah is nigh unto the good.
Allah is not a tyrant to His slaves.
Allah is disclosing what ye fear.
Allah is the Knower of Things Hidden
Allah is better at guarding, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
Allah is of ample means, Aware.
Allah is indeed Observer, Seer of His slaves.

It is reported - but Allah knows best - that the Prophet Muhammad - may peace be upon him - said, "There are ninety-nine names of Allah; he who enumerates them will enter Paradise."

 

It is reported - and Allah knows best - that Muhyidden Ibn Arabi, a friend of God - may Allah be pleased with him - said, "God is your mirror in which you contemplate yourself and you are His mirror in which He contemplates His attributes."
